Theodoros P. Vassilakopoulos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Laikon General Hospital, Athens, Greece).
He was born in Athens in 1968 and graduated from Athens Medical School with marks “Excellent; 9.17/10.0)”. He was trained in Internal Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine of the “401 General Army Hospital” and in both Internal Medicine and Haematology in the 1st Dept. of Internal Medicine, University of Athens (1999-2005) and became a member of the faculty of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2007. His research in the area of hematologic malignancies is mainly focused on malignant lymphomas and lymphoid leukemias (especially Hodgkin lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell and primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma etc), the role of positron emission tomography and the evaluation of benign and malignant lymphadenopathies. He has been involved as a PI in several international clinical trials.
Prof. Vassilakopoulos is the Chairman of the Lymphoma Section of the Hellenic Society of Hematology and the Vice Chairman of the Hellenic Society of Haematology. He is one of the Editors of “HAEMA”, the official journal of the Hellenic Society of Haematology and member of the Editorial Board of «Blood Cancer Journal”, “Cancers”, and “Leukemia and Lymphoma”. He has also been the Guest Editor in issues of “Seminars in Hematology” and “HAEMA” on Hodgkin lymphoma and co-Editor in “PET/CT in Lymphomas: A Case-Based Atlas” published in 2016 by Springer International Publishing. Prof. Vassilakopoulos has served as a reviewer in ~80 international journals. He has authored 170 Pubmed-cited publications with total impact factor of >800, Google Scholar h-index 36 and ~5000 citations.
